The newest pieces are inspired by a long journey through Egypt. I traveled from Alexandria to Sudan. Spending time in Cairo, Luxor, Abydos, Dendera, and Aswan. I floated on the Nile and took a felucca to Elephant Island. There are more paintings of boats, villages, and sunsets, coming soon from this trip.

The ocean always holds me captive. In this collection, you will see rivers and waterfalls as well as oceans. With the sea, each work is a new attempt to capture the movement and power of the vastness of space. The rivers and waterfalls are always about the fluid motion of color and light. I am also moved by the other artists that do this so well. Although my home base is a landlocked state, I travel to water often. Always returning to nature to experience her power and then portray that with art. The alchemy of pigment and oil to transform the canvas into a scene is profound. This work is impressionistic by nature, fast and expressive, but beyond ‘style’ and much more raw.

These paintings are inspired by trips to Italy. While onsite we made watercolor studies. Once back in the studio I have spent quite a few years painting Venice, Cinque de terre, and Assisi architecture, street, and water scenes.

Something happens to me in spring and summer as I watch the flowers in my world bloom in a frenzied exuberance. As such I paint that breath of life of the rose, iris, wisteria tendrils with the bees buzzing around me, fresh-picked daisies, and wild bluebells. Orchids have an exotic presence and when magnolias bloom their perfume fills my studio.

A day in the life of my husband and me as artists finds us in various places on our farm greeting the late afternoon with a watercolor session. The light is fleeting, seasonal, and embodies the mood of the day. The scenes are simple views of hills, light-etched trees, and sunsets. Yet I find the practice magical and real.

The portraits in this collection are painted from life after a series of sketches. Horse portraits are often done on commission. Also included, are figures in their setting both interior and in nature.

Drawing and sketching the figure in an atelier setting has always been a constant part of my practice.
